FOAM EXTINGUISHERS
A foam extinguisher is a firefighting device that discharges a light foam made of water and a foaming agent. This foam forms an insulating blanket that smothers the flames and prevents the fire reigniting.
It is particularly effective against:
- Class A fires: solid materials (paper, wood, fabrics…)
- Class B fires: flammable liquids (petrol, solvents, oils…)
Advantages:
- Avoids splashing flammable liquids, unlike water alone
- Extinguishes quickly while limiting the risk of reignition
- Less messy than powder, ideal for clean environments
- Combined action: cooling by the water + smothering by the foam

Components & accessories
The foam extinguisher consists of a steel cylinder containing a mixture of water and foaming agent. It is fitted with a flexible or rigid discharge hose depending on the model, a pressure gauge (for stored-pressure models), an ergonomic handle with trigger lever and a safety pin

Solid materials (wood, paper, textiles), liquids or liquefiable solids (petrol, solvents…)

Instructions for use
Pull the safety pin to release the handle. Aim the hose or diffuser at the base of the flames. Squeeze the handle to discharge the foam. Sweep from side to side to fully cover the area on fire.

Safety advice
It is important not to use a foam extinguisher on live electrical fires, unless it is clearly indicated as suitable for this purpose.

How to recognise a foam extinguisher
CO2 extinguishers can be recognised by grey or black features:
- AB fire pictograms
- Pressure gauge
- No wide-jet diffuser
